The paper presents one alternative solution for IPv4 multicast: CastGate. Thistechnology provides seamless access to multicast content through auto-tunneling. It is intendedas a transition step toward native multicast, that will lead to a increase in the numberof multicast users. Alternative technologies offer solutions for problems which are not addressedby the native multicast model. The proposed enhancements refer to adding PIM-SMsupport and to the possibility of migrating from IPv4 to IPv6 multicast on CastGate architectures.
